Veganize Me

So far, so good. I'm on day number three of my month-long vegan voyage, and I'm already feeling better. Some of you may have seen Morgan Spurlock's fantastic documentary, Supersize Me in which he ate nothing but McDonald's for a month straight (I don't want to ruin it for those who haven't seen it, but he definitely looks like he's eaten McDonald's for a month straight by the end). So in keeping with that theme, I've decided to go completely vegan for the next month.

This could be a problem, because I like meat. Some of the happiest times of my life have involved meat: a Dinosaur BBQ pulled pork sandwich after a Green Day concert in college, sitting in front of the TV with a plateful of chicken wings and blue cheese watching playoff baseball, inhaling slice after slice of pizza with extra crispy pepperoni (just the way I like it) with friends in high school... I don't recall too many good memories involving rabbit food.

Lucky for me though, I like a good challenge more than I like a good steak (I think), and with the majority of my friends and family members that know about Veganize Me saying I won't make it to Friday, I'm out to prove that I didn't bite off more than I can chew.

I'm mainly going to focus on the health benefits (if any) from a vegan diet. Many people "go vegan" for ethical reasons, and I'll certainly talk about that, although I am of the belief that the animals would eat us too given the chance.

Feel free to send words of encouragement, vegan-related tips/links/stories, words of hate, recipes, pictures of juicy cheeseburgers… anything you want that can help/hinder me throughout the month – I welcome it all. The freezer's full of Boca Burgers, the rice milk is chilling in the fridge, and I survived my first encounter with tofu. Bring on the seitan.

If you've had one of these cupcakes, you'll want to stay vegan for the rest of your life: http://www.nytimes.com/2007/01/24/dining/241vrex.html?_r=1&oref=slogin !

Here's one of my favorite quick & easy tofu recipes: http://veganyumyum.com/2007/01/mori-soba-glazed-tofu-carrots-and/

Have a fun week - vegan food is not rabbit food if you are properly equipped!

Make sure to eat lots of fresh foods instead of processed! You will be an inspiration to me if you do this. Maybe I'll try to go vegan for a month too. :)
